  • Autumn Term

The Autumn Term in Year 2 explores the question 'What makes a hero?' It is the perfect opportunity for the children to be curious about their own strengths and qualities as they learn about historical heroes and their achievements. In history, the children use the text 'Fantastically Great Women who changed History' as a stimulus for their learning. 'Traction Man' is the core text for English and the children use this to inspire their own comic strip stories and 'healthy muffin for a hero' in their DT learning. Later in the term, they read 'Look Up' - an exciting story linked to the astronaut Mae Jemison.

In maths, pupils continue to consolidate and grow their place value knowledge- applying this to addition and subtraction methods. Science learning for this term is based on materials and their properties. This scientific knowledge supports the artwork created making paper-based sculptures.
