  • Y3 Autumn Term

The Stone Age underpins the beginning of learning in Year 3 and the children love learning about early humans and how they lived. Through the core texts of 'Ug' and 'Stone Age Boy' the children are inspired to develop their historical enquiry skills. Using artefacts to help them, they build their knowledge of life and survival thousands of years ago. During this term, the children experience a Stone Age Day, creating tools and cooking fish over an open fire. The art this term is inspired by early cave drawings and in DT, the children sew a pair of trousers for Ug.

In the Autumn term, children are inroduced to 'Times tables Travels'. As they learn their times tables, they can travel through the neighbourhoods of Crawley and then across the cities of the world. This number fluency aslo supports their maths learning- which starts the year with place value. In Science, the focus this term is exploring plants and what they need to grown and then identifying and classifying rocks.

Children also start learning Spanish this term and become confident greeting one another and introducing themselves, as well learning how to say some different animals in Spanish.
