  • Autumn Term

At the beginning of the year, we allow time for the children to settle into Year One through a similar learning approach to Reception - children will have short inputs with the class teacher before choosing independent learning. They will then complete short focused tasks with adults in the room during the learning sessions.

In Maths, we concentrate on place value and ensuring children are confident with their numbers to both 10 and 20. We start looking at addition and subtraction as well as identifying different shapes. In English, we explore the stories of How to Catch a Star and There's a Tiger in the Garden. Later in the term, we meet Beegu, who is lost and needs our help. We use our Design and Technology lessons to create Beegu a healthy snack and our Geography lessons to help create photo trials around the school, so Beegu knows how to get about.

Our music learning relates to our Religious Education on the ‘Life of a Christian Child’ and we learn songs for both our Harvest Celebration Assembly and Nativity Play. Our history focus for the term is understanding what history is. We learn a little about our own history before looking at the historical figure of Queen Elizabeth. In Science, we learn about the plants round us, including trees, and use our school grounds to explore different plants and how they grow.
