Eco Council 

The effect of global warming and its environmental impact is of huge significance to the world that we and our children live in.  The Eco-Council at Northgate has been created to provide regular opportunities for pupils to raise awareness of environmental issues and lead exciting innovative, ‘green’ projects with our school and the wider community. It aims to increase our children’s sense of responsibility to the environment and to the local area.

Eco councillors benefit, not only from learning about environmental issues, but from learning other skills, such as leadership, collaboration and goal setting. A key element to a successful Eco-Council is the involvement of pupils in the whole process, including monitoring, action planning and decision making.  The Eco-council aims to continually identify areas within our school where negative environmental impact can be reduced and offer solutions that can impact positively on our school and the wider community.

At the beginning of 2021 we began working towards the Eco-School’s Silver Award, which is an internationally recognised award for excellence in environmental action and learning.
