PSHCE at Northgate

As a nurturing school community, PSHCE is part of a whole school approach to Pupil health and well-being. Our curriculum provides a range of opportunities to enrich the lives of our children by developing their communication skills, confidence, self worth and explore a wide range of social, moral, cultural and behavioural issues. We want to prepare them for the future by nurturing and developing a love of learning, resilience, integrity, team work, critical thinking and independence. We want to prepare them for the world of work and support them in developing enterprise skills and financial awareness.

At Northgate, the main emphasis of our curriculum is to foster independence, nurture ambition, develop resilience and to stimulate a sense of personal pride and creativity.

PSHCE underpins our school ethos and is delivered through a variety of opportunities.

We aim to develop pupils’ understanding of the world, their ability to communicate their feelings and value themselves.  Children can develop the confidence, talents and skills, to become effective individuals, motivated learners and active citizens, by asking questions, challenging themselves and respecting the opinions of others around them.

We promote the use of ‘zones of regulation’ and a ‘Growth Mindset’ these principles and British Values underpin our PSHE curriculum along with our Northgate core values: Respect,  Curiosity,  Resilience and Ambition.

We believe we can enhance children’s education and help them become caring, respectful and confident individuals.
