Times Table Rock Stars Competition! 

 

As part of our commitment to make maths exciting and high profile in our school, we are taking part in a friendly competition involving schools in the UK for NSPCC Number Day on Friday the 4th of February. It’s all done online via play.ttrockstars.com.

 

For every correct answer to a multiplication or division question, your child will earn their class a point. The Times Tables Rock Stars platform will calculate the class average (the number of correct answers per pupil in the class who play during the competition hours, subject to a daily 60-minute limit (see below)). Winning classes in the school and in the competition as a whole will be the ones with the highest average.

 

All game modes (Gig, Garage, Studio, etc.) will count but only from games played between 7:30AM BST and 7:30PM BST on Friday 4^th.

 

To support player wellbeing, there is a daily time limit of 60 minutes per player. In other words, each player can earn competition points for up to 60 minutes between 7.30am and 7.30pm on Friday 4th. Once the player goes beyond 60 minutes of play on that day, they will still earn coins but will no longer earn points towards the competition.

 

In the spirit of the competition, please don’t play on their behalf but by all means encourage and support them to the extent that it doesn’t cause high stress levels or impact on family plans. We suggest a limit of half an hour a day outside school hours – some will play more, some will play less.

Rocksteady! 

 

We have some children taking part in Rocksteady, music lessons to teach children a variety of instruments including drums, guitar, keyboard and even vocals! Well done guys!

Well done to the year 5 netballers who attended the year 6 Festival on Thursday. The opposition was tough (and very tall!!) but it was a great opportunity to practice for next year's competitions! Every one of them improved as the tournament progressed and they showed great perseverance and tenacity.

Well done to the basketball team who played in the Storm tournament on Friday evening with 11 other schools from Crawley.  Yet another sterling performance from Team Northgate, who came 2nd, only missing out to a team that had 5 out of 6 players who play for Storm Basketball club every week! (We only had one player!)

Nursery have been learning about the Tamil Festival of Harvest today. 

 

We hope you have wonderful celebrations! 

Our reception and Y1 classes had a great day today meeting some incredible dinosaurs!

 

The day started with Reception taking part in Fossil workshops, 

In large sandboxes, the children locate and identify fossils from some of the most iconic dinosaurs of the past. Tyrannosaurus Rex, Stegosaurus, Triceratops and a few other surprises!

The children learnt about when each dinosaur lived, where they came from and what they ate! 

 

Then this afternoon Y1 and reception were visited by Sophie the T-Rex and her friends! The children were introduced by Sophie's keeper and even got to hear her roar!

Boys Football Tournament Oriel High School

 

The boys football had the 3 toughest opposition last night and although they defended with gusto, we couldn’t quite get the ball in the other goal!  The boys played with great support for one another and showed great respect for the opposition – well done boys you can hold your heads high!
