English

Within our English learning, we offer the children in Year 3 the opportunity to write for a range of audiences and purposes. We also recognise the importance of embedding hands-on speaking and listening activities into our lessons. Children also encouraged to rehearse sentences, themes or structures aurally and use concrete resources such as words banks, working walls or white boards available to them within each Year 3 classroom. Take a look at the range of English learning taking place this Year in Year 3:

  • The Secret Sky Garden allowed us to write visual settings and combine this with our collage work in Art.
  • Invisible allowed us to write a character description based on our learning, using this text as a stimulus.
  • Ug allowed us to orally practice our Stone Age Games then write a set of instructions to enable other people to play the games.
  • We are proud of our independent non – fiction writing which included a biography of Thomas Edison and a persuasive letter to Mrs Harrison.

Our stimuli and examples of fantastic writing!
