Our English lessons are based around high-quality texts that allow children to write for a range of purposes and audiences. We incorporate speaking and listening activities as well as reading and writing opportunities, with a focus on editing and improving our work. We also enjoy linking our topic work and making our writing cross-curricular. Here are some examples of the texts and work we have focused on this year: 

The children wrote letters to invite the family in this story over to England, explaining what makes it a good place to live.

The children enjoyed creating play scripts and writing newspaper reports about the Trojan horse. 

The children have loved learning the story of Beowulf, through this capturing retelling, and have created ‘wanted’ poster in search of the monster, Grendel.
