Geography

Geography at Northgate

Our geography curriculum is designed to inspire in our children a curiosity and fascination about the world, and its people, that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. We are lucky to have such an amazing diverse school population that can bring their experiences of what living in Crawley means to their family as well as their wider family experience, often living many hundreds or even thousands of miles away to their and their classes’ geographical learning.

At Northgate, we plan for geography to be creative, fun and above all be relevant and meaningful to the children’s own lives and experiences. Geography teaches an understanding and respect of places and environments. Through their work in geography, children learn about their local area and compare their life in this area with that in other regions in the United Kingdom and in the rest of the world. They learn how to draw and interpret maps and they develop the skills of research, investigation, analysis and problem-solving.

We understand how it has never been more important for children to have a comprehensive global understanding of our world and the peoples and cultures that inhabit it.  Through this understanding, children will develop respect for the physical world and the vast scope of cultures that make up our diverse planet.
