  • Year 3 became Archaeologists!

    Wed 28 Apr 2021

The Ancient Unknown as discovered in Northgate Garden!

Year 3 were very excited to have a 'deep excavation' appear in our garden. It was sectioned off into small areas and all year 3 spent part of their day digging like archaeologists, looking for any Egyptian artefacts buried beneath the soil.

Year 3 used their knowledge of stone age excavations back in the Autumn to ask and answer questions. In doing so they made discoveries of Egyptian sarcophagus, canopic jars, Pharaoh models, metallic jewellery and a papyrus based picture.

Children photographed their findings, sketched the artefacts and used their historical enquiry  questions and answers to formulate what the artefacts were, who they belonged to and what they might have been used for.

All very exciting and Year 3 were brilliant historical detectives!
